Obyda Essam BDS (Newcastle University), DDSc (Endo), MJDF RCS Eng, MEndo RCS Ed – Specialist in Endodontics and Clinical Lecturer at Liverpool University.

Obyda qualified from Newcastle University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and completed his general foundation training at the Northern Dental Deanery. Obyda then worked in a number of general dental practices in the North East and was then awarded Membership of the Joint Dental Faculty at the Royal College of Surgeons in London (MJDF RCS Eng) in 2012.

Working in multidisciplinary practice, Obyda developed a keen interest in Endodontics following several postgraduate courses. His practice in the field gave him the ambition to perfect his general root canal treatment cases and pursue further experience in tackling the more challenging retreatment and surgical endodontic cases.

Obyda joined the University of Liverpool in 2014 and undertook 3 further years of specialist training whilst doing a clinical Doctorate degree (DDsc in Endodontics). He was appointed as a Teaching Fellow in Endodontology at the university and an honorary Speciality Registrar in Endodontics at Liverpool dental hospital. During his clinical training, he was awarded the educational grant by the European Society of Endodontology for his ongoing research which focuses on accurate assessment of complex endodontic cases and the development of the Endodontic Complexity Assessment Tool (E-CAT).

Following to the collegiate speciality examination, he successfully attained Membership in Endodontics (MEndo) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is now registered as a Specialist in Endodontics with the General Dental Council (GDC). He is currently appointed as a clinical lecturer in Endodontology at the University of Liverpool and an honorary Speciality Doctor by the RLBUH trust. He works in a number of specialist referral practices in the North West. In addition to treating complex endodontic treatments in practice, he is actively involved in teaching and training postgraduate dental students at the dental hospital.

Obyda performs all of his dental treatments under dental microscope and now accepts referrals for consultations and treatment of complex root canal treatment, root canal retreatment and surgical endodontics, including root end surgery, hemi-section and root resorption repair. Given the wide range of restorative dentistry training he received at Liverpool Dental Hospital, he is more than happy to fully or partly restore the endodontically treated tooth or refer the treatment back for the coronal restoration as requested by the referring colleague.

In addition to attending national and international conferences, Obyda is a member of the British Dental Association, British Endodontic Society and the European Society of Endodontology. He was elected as trainee representative for the dental registrars at the HENW deanery and was a member of the Specialty Training Committee in 2014-2017. Aside from dentistry, he enjoys exploring new places, traveling and football.

andrew-photoMr Kunal Sudra – Dentist with Special Interest in Implant Dentistry
BDS (KCL) BSc (HONS) DipImpDent

Kunal graduated from King’s College London in 2009 winning several prizes, including achieving one of the highest marks in final examinations.

He decided quickly after qualifying that he wanted to focus on Implant Dentistry, and therefore focused on working in environments where he could develop the necessary multi-disciplinary skills required to be an Implant Dentist. He worked as house officer at Guy’s hospital in the Oral Surgery and Prosthodontics department, followed by continuing as a Speciality Dentist in Oral Surgery to further develop his surgical skills. Kunal also worked in several dental practices in London providing Implant and Surgical dental treatment.

Since 2013 Kunal has been working in private practice in Liverpool, while also completing Post-graduate education in Implant Dentistry (DipImpDent). He now limits his practice to Implant Dentistry, and spends a lot of his time attending courses both in the UK and abroad to ensure he can provide a high level of expertise to his patients. He is also passionate about education, and runs a study club in Liverpool to help colleagues develop their skills through lectures and mentoring.

Kunal understands that undergoing dental treatment in general can cause anxiety, so the thought of implant surgery can be terrifying! However his calm manner combined with ensuring that you are well informed and prepared for your treatment will help even the most phobic patient feel at ease.
